PBS News Hour highlights PHE Outreach in Bohol, Philippines

This 10 minute clip from the PBS News Hour program highlights the complex links between increasing population growth, food security and resulting pressures on the marine environment in the rural fishing village of Humay-Humay in southern Philippines. With the highest population growth rate in the southeast Asia, the Philippines faces increasing pressures on its coastal resources, which provide food for rural poor populations.

In response to these pressures, PATH Foundation Philippines, Inc. (PFPI) and other NGOs are implementing integrating Population, Health and Environment (PHE) approaches to increase community access to family planning (FP) products and help families to space their children. Dr. Joan Castro, Executive Vice President for PFPI and the Technical Lead for the BALANCED Project, explains the PHE project rationale and human well-being benefits in this village and many others in southern Philippines.
