At the state’s request CRC is leading the creation of the Rhode Island Shellfish Management Plan (SMP), a milestone regulatory guidance document that will provide the Ocean State with its first comprehensive set of policies and practices for protecting and enhancing local shellfish stocks and burgeoning wild harvest and aquaculture industries. This effort, which will enhance state and industry resources, also will anchor several critical offshoot projects  — from a food safety component focused on management measures for Vibrio, a shellfish bacteria that can harm people, to a collaborative marketing initiative poised to examine opportunities for increasing local consumption of homegrown shellfish products. To learn more about the project, please visit the Shellfish management plan website at: www.rismp.org/
