The purpose of this project (concluded in June 2003) was to set the stage for engaging the Northeast National Parks in Marine Protected Area establishment. MPAs are a possible tool for the National Park Service to use to meet its mandate of preserving and protecting natural resources within park boundaries of Acadia, ME; Cape Cod, MA; Boston Harbor Islands in Massachusetts; Fire Island and Gateway National Recreation Area in New York and in Assateague, VA, and Maryland.
