CRC is facilitating for the Northeast Regional Ocean Council (NROC) an effort to engage New England fisheries stakeholders in a mapping project to identify ocean areas and resources of prime importance to the industry. While multiple efforts have been undertaken to understand ocean uses on local levels, this is the first effort to do so on a regional scale, using available data as a baseline to inform the maps. The project engages fisheries stakeholders and will enable fishermen to work with key government, academic, private and community interests on developing opportunities to define the importance of these resources to the local fishing industries, while building connections to appropriately guide other ocean activities, such as offshore renewable energy initiatives.
