HIV/AIDS, Gender and Population Dimensions of Tanzania Coastal Conservation

Mitigation guidelines development

Based on the threats assessment and early actions, the PEACE project developed guidelines for mitigating the impacts of HIV/AIDS on biodiversity conservation. The main audience for the guidelines was the district and park staff in the two districts, but as a sister-report to the threats assessment, we also expect that the recommendations laid out in the report can be of interest to conservation professionals throughout Tanzania. The guidelines present measures and actions that districts can take to lessen the impacts that HIV/AIDS have on biodiversity conservation, including gender and population aspects. They are structured around the key impacts of HIV/AIDS on biodiversity (accelerated rate of extraction, decreased availability of labor, and loss of traditional knowledge and skills).
