Conserving Critical Coastal Ecosystems in Mexico

Gulf of California Regional Governance

In the Mexico project, this activity focused on opening a dialogue that engages key, nationally prominent, private sector leaders with an interest in sustainable development issues in the Gulf of California region. The consultative process was meant to complement government initiatives already underway to prepare environmental plans and policies for the Gulf as a region and for coastal zones in each state. This dialogue with business occurred in parallel with the conventional planning approaches which were already underway, with an emphasis on setting achievable goals and a new regional governance framework for decision-making and implementation.
