Population and Gender Dimensions in Strengthening Coastal Stewardship

Field Site Gender/Population Action Strategy Implementation

Teams within the Coastal Resources’s Women in ICM: Leadership Development (WILD) initiative implemented action plans for mainstreaming gender and population/demographics into their coastal management programs. These teams—from Fiji, Indonesia, Philippines, Tanzania and Mexico—conducted training, developed tools and handbooks, and engaged in other activities aimed at this mainstreaming. These efforts were supplemented by technical assistance in the form of both field-visits and long-distance mentoring from gender, ICM, and demographic experts associated with the WILD initiative.

As the initiative has grown, field teams have been adaptive, capturing opportunities that might not have been outlined in their initial action plans.
