The Coastal Resources Center’s (CRC) work in Chetumal Bay, Mexico included helping to select a geographic focus area in which the University of Quintana Roo (UQROO)— a key CRC partner in Mexico — could engage in “learning-by-doing” in an ecosystem near its campus. An International Symposium on Chetumal Bay was held in August of 2001 and led to a proposal for integrated bay management. Progress was made in coastal communities, the Manatee Sanctuary, shore use management and citizen involvement.
