Reef Check provides a global status report on coral reefs by coordinating data collection from volunteer survey teams. In this project (ended December 2003) a web-based system was developed that allows a user to input Reef Check survey data and receive expert advice on the health of the reef surveyed, possible causes and actions that may be taken to achieve specific conservation goals. CRC’s contribution was to develop a method to identify general management issues based on survey results and provide recommendations, fact sheets and global links to organizations. The initial advisory system was designed for RC sites in the South East Asia Region. Once established, the system can provide advice on managing a coral reef anywhere in the world.
