HIV/AIDS, Gender and Population Dimensions of Tanzania Coastal Conservation

The PEACE project was an innovative project (ended September 2006) with the goal of integrating HIV/AIDS, gender, and population dimensions into coastal conservation initiatives using a participatory and adaptive-management-based approach. Project objectives were to:

1. Test cross-sectoral approaches for integrating HIV/AIDS, gender and population dimensions into site-level coastal conservation and sustainable use governance initiatives.

2. Assess, document and disseminate lessons learned, policy implications and recommendations for cross sectoral approaches to ICM, with particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS.

3. Disseminate experience and lessons learned at the local, national and regional levels.

4. Raise awareness among ICM policymakers at the national and local levels of the linkgaes between HIV-AIDS and coastal conservation.
