CRC continues, as it has for over 40 years, to work in the Ocean State at our headquarters on the campus of the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography. Seated at the mouth of Narragansett Bay, we develop and apply coastal management policies and plans which extend up the Bay and throughout all of its many tributaries which characterize our small state. In this way, our own backyard serves as a “living laboratory” in which we can test and improve tools and techniques for protecting and enhancing our marine-based economic, social and environmental resources.

  • The Bay Islands Park: A Marine Recreation Plan For The State Of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center 1 July 1976

A system of parks on the islands of Narragansett Bay has been the dream of a number of farsighted Rhode Islanders since early in the 1960s. This proposal is a refinement of a Preliminary Report presented to the Director of Natural Resources, Governor Noel, and the General Assembly in March 1974. The initial document concluded that the new park could become a vital link in the state's recreational system and should be developed as soon as possible. Additional research and deliberations undertaken since publication of the Preliminary Report have only served to solidify the conviction of those involved in developing the concept that the Bay Islands Park represents a rare opportunity to significantly enhance the quality of our lives for generations to come.
