The Coastal Resources Center worked in Fiji with its University of the South Pacific (USP) partner and key stakeholders from government to review lessons learned from site-based coastal management. A key venue for this review was a national workshop, which helped build support for launching integrated coastal management framework initiatives in Fiji the goals of which are to:

• Strengthen, sustain, and foster replication of local management programs
• Address critical coastal issues of larger-than-local concern
• Develop mechanisms for vertical integration of governance efforts and fairly balance local and provincial and/or national interests.
