Partnership in Integrated Coastal Management in the Pacific

Implementation

One activity within the Peace Corps Pacific project was to assemble roundtables that brought together national government leaders, business groups, and community leaders to raise awareness of coastal issues, help Pacific countries define an integrated coastal management (ICM) process, and identify a potential role for Peace Corps in that process.

ICM training courses tested in the Federated States of Micronesia and Vanuatu helped refine training approaches and identify issues of interest for a larger Pacific ICM training initiative. Organizational capacity of Peace Corps and the University of the South Pacific (USP) was strengthened by staff attendance at the Coastal Resources Center’s month-long international coastal management training course, Summer Institute in Coastal Management.
