Population and Gender Dimensions in Strengthening Coastal Stewardship

Assessing Progress and Learning from Action Plan Implementation

As part of the Coastal Resources Center’s Women in ICM: Leadership Development or WILD program, teams from Fiji, Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, and Tanzania tracked progress on their initial action strategies to mainstream gender and demographics into their coastal management programs. This included a qualitative analysis of the changes in enabling conditions and behavior that occurred within each field site.

The WILD project mentors and participants together assessed project and behavior change over the course of the overall initiative. Also, by preparing teaching case studies, field site participants and mentors documented participant field experience in their effort to mainstream gender and population/demographics — documenting where and how changes/improvements take place, and offering assumptions as to the reasons for these changes.
