Population and Gender Dimensions in Strengthening Coastal Stewardship

Training and Strategy Development Workshops

The Coastal Resources Center’s Women in ICM: Leadership Development initiative’s first major undertaking was a learning workshop in February 2003. It gathered together 25 participants from partner organizations (e.g. the World Conservation Union) and from the program’s initial eight field sites in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The goal was to provide training and assist field teams in preparing action plans for mainstreaming demographics and gender in their projects. This workshop also marked the beginning of the ICM-population-gender learning network.

The second workshop in September 2004 focused on:

  • sharing lessons learned
  • finalizing teaching case studies around field-base experience
  • evaluating behavior change and outcomes resulting from the WILD intervention
