While limits on fishing effort, gear restrictions and size limits can contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainable fisheries practices, alone they are insufficient. Therefore, the Project will work to identify and, where feasible, implement other strategies to achieve a fully-functioning, ecosystem-based approach by improving fishing technology and changing fishing practices that together will reduce incidental by-catch in key fisheries. This includes reducing incidental by-catch of juveniles of targeted and untargeted species as well as of endangered or threatened species such as marine turtles.
