Field implementation of mitigation actions

PEACE worked in eight villages – Matipwili and Saadani in Bagamoyo district and Buyuni, Mkwaja, Mkalamo, Mikocheni, Sange and Ushingo in Pangani district – to implement pilot mitigation measures. This included helping villagers start alternative livelihoods such as paprika farming, milkfish culture, and poultry raising – livelihoods that do not further stress the coastal resources or threaten coastal biodiversity. Other mitigation measures include introducing the use of fuel-efficient stoves and establishing wood lots as a source of fuel-wood instead of cutting mangroves and/or coastal forests.
