The CRC and its partners championed the integrated population, health, environment (PHE) approach as a transformational strategy for the 21st century and one that supports the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals. Efforts by the CRC, in partnership with PATH Foundation Philippines Inc. (PFPI) and Conservation International (CI) were part of the “Building Actors and Leaders for Excellence in Community Development” or BALANCED Project, which closed in September 2013. Advancing and supporting wider use of effective PHE approaches worldwide can create cadres of competent PHE champions and practitioners from Africa and Asia. These individuals simultaneously support family planning and conservation and work collaboratively with other global groups to apply PHE knowledge and practices in remote biodiversity-rich areas. They also actively document and share evidence of the added-value and better practices of PHE with the wider community.
