Sri Lanka Coastal Zone Management Project

Strengthen the Sri Lanka CCD Toward Implementing the Coast 2000 Strategy at the National Level and through SAMPs

As part of its work with the Sri Lankan coastal program, the Coastal Resources Center (CRC) helped promote a common agenda for coastal resources management by:

  • promoting institutional strengthening
  • adding Coast 2000 policies to the existing framework
  • improving the permit system
  • broadening participation in the coastal zone management plan and
  • creating capacity in the National Aquatic Resources Agency

CRC also assisted in the creation and implementation of Special Area Management Plans in Rekawa Lagoon and Hikkaduwa and carrying out targeted training, education and outreach programs to support the national and local objectives for coastal management.
