The Coastal Resources Center worked with the Ecuador Coastal Resources Management Program (PMRC) to conduct issue profiles, promote local participation, implement early actions and establish strategies for special area management in one coastal area within each of the coastal provinces:

• Atacames-Muisne, in Esmeraldas province
• the Rio Chone estuary in Manabi Province
• San Pedro-Manglaralto and Playas-Posorja in Guaymas Province
• Machala-Pto Bolivar in El Oro province.

Each plan addresses multiple issues, including sanitation, water, mangroves, and mariculture.
