Analysis and Recommendations for Poverty Alleviation in Coastal Tanzania

Socio-Economic Study on Options for Poverty Alleviation Through Sustainable Development of Marine Protected Areas.

As part of the Coastal Resources Center’s work in Tanzania, it conducted a socio-economic study to:

  • understand how marine protected areas (MPAs) in Tanzania contribute to poverty alleviation
  • at specific sites, assess how MPAs impact the livelihoods of adjacent coastal communities
  • understand the synergies and linkages between poverty alleviation and biodiversity conservation

The study will make recommendations and identify options for how to improve the contribution of MPAs to poverty reduction in coastal Tanzania.
