Bridging the Large Marine Ecosystem Governance Gap

Analysis of LME Governance and Socio-Economic Elements

The final product of this LME project was the publication A Handbook on Governance and Socioeconomics of Large Marine Ecosystems. The handbook integrates the deliberations of many practitioners and researchers who have been working to define the human dimensions of Large Marine Ecosystems (LMEs) as these came together in the design and delivery of a workshop held in March 2006.

The focus of the project and workshop was to advance the understanding and integration of governance and socioeconomics with the natural sciences research of fisheries, pollution and ecosystem services at the LME scale. It is our hope that LME decision-makers, coastal/marine management practitioners and researchers will find this handbook of practical usefulness in their work.
